ABOUT JAZZ DANCE

DSC_0410.JPG

As a dance educator for over the past twenty years, I realized that jazz dance education is a very specialized dance form that needs its place in the concert dance world.  As a dance educator, I have taught at many different studios, dance conferences, and higher education.

The jazz dance style, if not mentioned, students cannot identify what type of jazz dance they are learning. Many do not understand that there are jazz dance pioneers who have developed the jazz dance movement style.

As a jazz teacher at Charlotte Ballet Academy, I teach in the primary, intermediate and advanced levels. My students must understand what style of jazz dance they are learning and why.

Through The Jazz Dance Movement (TJDM), I plan to use this platform to build arts-integrated lessons, which will involve students' participation in a sharing, non-judgmental environment where everyone is encouraged to create.

After learning the compositions of creating a jazz dance, the students will present a presentation to the group for discussion and analysis. They are building a better understanding of jazz dance as an art form of movement.
