THE COMPANY
The Garrison Experience, founded by Kyle Garrison Shawell, is the emerging Jazz Dance Company in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Shawell started The Garrison Experience out of the need he believed was missing for a concert dance company that focuses on jazz dance's aesthetic – the Roots, the Movements, and the Performance. By telling stories (historical and current) that provoke thought and engage our audiences, The Garrison Experience aims to fill the deep void of jazz dance in a concert setting. Shawell has always felt a profound need for a concert dance company that focuses on the aesthetics and contributions of jazz dance throughout the dance community.
As a teacher, choreographer, and performer for the past twenty-five years, Shawell knew he had a passion and a responsibility to do his part in preserving and cultivating jazz dance as a treasured American art form.
